Zone Light Meter is local-first. Nothing about your shooting habits, your rolls, your gear, or your usage of the app leaves your phone unless you explicitly export it. This page is the long version.

What the app stores

Everything the app records, including your gear profiles, film stocks, rolls, shot logs, calibration data, and preferences, is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. Nothing is uploaded. Nothing is sent to a server. There is no account because there is nothing on a server to log into.

What the app does not collect

  • No analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude)
  • No crash reporting that includes personal data
  • No third-party advertising identifiers
  • No location tracking
  • No usage telemetry
  • No A/B testing services

What the app needs network access for

The app uses network only when you explicitly ask it to:

  • Weather and UV data: optional, only fetched on demand if you tap the weather widget. Coordinates are sent to the weather provider only for that single request.
  • Ephemeris updates: optional, only when you refresh sun and moon data for a new location.
  • Community film profile downloads: optional, only when you tap to fetch the latest community calibration data.

Everything else works fully offline.

What permissions the app requests

  • Camera: required for metering. Used only while you are actively looking through the viewfinder.
  • Location: optional. Used only if you enable ephemeris features and want them to know where you are.
  • Storage: used to write CSV exports if you choose to export your roll data.
  • Notifications: optional. Used by the bulb timer and a few reminders.

What you can export and delete

Everything in the app's database is exportable as CSV. There is no proprietary format; you can keep your data even if you stop using the app. Uninstalling the app removes the database.
