Detail

How it works

What it does

Most of the time the app reads instantly, just like Fast mode. But when it notices that the scene has parts that are too bright (white-out highlights) or too dark (pitch-black shadows) for Fast mode to read accurately, it automatically switches to the precise Professional measurement just for that one reading.

Why this is useful

You get Fast mode's speed on normal scenes and Professional mode's accuracy only when the scene actually needs it. No need to remember which mode you are in or toggle a switch every time the lighting changes.

What is the trade-off

Most readings stay instant. Readings on tricky scenes take an extra half to one second while the app does the careful measurement. The app shows the same spinner either way so you will see when it is escalating.

Recommended for

Everyday use. This is the setting most photographers will want most of the time. Keep it on and forget about it.

Implementation notes (for developers)
MeteringPrecision.PRO_AUTO_ON_CLIP branch. Detects clipping mid-flow and re-runs the spot through the Pro path before returning. Persisted as Profile.meteringPrecision.
