Bracketing
Also called: exposure bracket
Shooting the same scene at multiple exposures to hedge your bet.
A bracket is a series of frames taken at, for example, one stop under, the metered exposure, and one stop over. If you are unsure of your reading, or if the scene is high contrast and you want to choose later, bracketing makes sure at least one frame is usable. Film bracketing is common in slide work where exposure latitude is narrow.
