Film latitude

Also called: dynamic range of film

How forgiving a film stock is to exposure errors.

Negative films like Portra 400 have wide latitude: you can overexpose by two stops and pull it back in the scan with no real loss. Slide films like Velvia have narrow latitude: even half a stop over and the highlights are gone. Knowing your film's latitude tells you when to bracket and when to trust a single reading. The app shows a latitude warning if your bias would push the scene outside the stock's safe zone.
