2.15 Section 2: Advanced Light Reading & Metering Modes

Auto-stabilization gated reading

Skip readings until the meter is steady (reduces noise).

Where to find it

Summary

When enabled, the meter ignores readings while the phone is moving. Once the phone settles and the exposure stabilizes, the meter takes a reading. Generalizable logic from the Bulb Timer steadiness check.

How it works

What it does

Enable this option and the meter becomes more stable when you are handheld. Instead of reading every time your finger touches the screen, the app waits until the phone settles and the reading becomes steady. This reduces noise caused by hand shake or quick camera movements.

How steadiness is detected

The app monitors the phone's accelerometer. When the acceleration is low (the phone is not moving much), the reading is considered steady and a tap will trigger a measurement. When acceleration is high (you are panning or moving the phone), the meter ignores your tap and waits for you to settle.

When to use it

Handheld outdoor metering, especially in low light when small movements cause big exposure swings. Or when you are learning to hold the meter still and want feedback on when you are actually stable.

When to turn it off

When you are using a tripod or phone rest and do not need extra steadiness gating. Or when you want instant-feedback metering regardless of motion, for rapid-fire measuring.

Implementation notes (for developers)
Bulb timer steady check generalizable. Detects motion/acceleration and gates reading until stable.
