Exposure value
Also called: EV
A single number that describes how much light a scene has.
Exposure value (EV) combines aperture and shutter speed into one number. EV 0 is f/1 at 1 second. Each whole stop of light is one EV. Sunny daylight is around EV 15. Indoor room light is around EV 5 to 7. EV is useful because it lets you compare scenes regardless of what aperture or shutter you happen to choose. The meter displays a live EV reading at the top of the viewfinder.
